Order to present gangster Basnet
Kathmandu, (RSS): The Supreme Court today has ordered the authorities concerned to present alleged gangster Samir Man Basnet within three days. The order by a single bench of Dipak Raj Joshi came today in response to the writ of habeas corpus filed arguing that Basnet was held illegally. Jailed at Nakkhu prison in Lalitpur, Basnet was transferred to the prison in Mustang on Monday.
Basnet was arrested from India by the Central Investigation Bureau of Nepal Police on the charge of his involvement in the murder of then President of Contractors Association of Nepal Sharad Gauchan. Gauchan was shot dead in broad daylight in Baneswar, Kathmandu almost a year ago.
Also today, the Supreme Court issued an interim order to stop dismantling the historical Bag Durbar. The decision by Kathmandu Metropolitan City to bring down the historical structure has been stayed by a single bench decision of Justice Joshi. The order comes in response to a writ filed by senior advocate Prakash Mani Sharma.
